What is Lifewatchers?

Our Lifewatchers Course was started over 15 years ago by Janet Jacks, founder of Goodness Me! Over 40 years ago, Janet made the decision to dedicate herself to improving the health of herself and her family. A few years later, in 1981, Janet opened the doors to the first Goodness Me! in Hamilton, bringing her commitment to all of us: “providing foods that nourish, avoiding ones that harm, and sharing the wisdom to know the difference”. Lifewatchers is an extension of this promise, and over fifteen years later has proven over and over again to be effective, fun, and the way to achieve results for the everyday people just like us!
Now expanded to include over 20 courses at different locations and times, and with thousands of successful graduates, the effectiveness of the course speaks for itself. It’s a simple concept that can be applied to any lifestyle, and it makes nutrition and healthy living easy, fun, and life-changing! Don’t believe us? Come and see for yourself!


Welcome to Lifewatchers: where you’ll create your own success story! This week introduces participants into the program by inviting them to evaluate their current health status, teaching them the basic principles of Lifewatchers, and introducing them to the importance of breakfast. We’ll review what comprises a healthy, satisfying, and energizing breakfast and what benefits each of the ingredients have to help people understand why it really is the most important meal of the day (and no, sorry, but a drive-thru breakfast sandwich doesn’t count!). Participants will have a chance to be weighed and measured for later comparison purposes, and will taste and take home the recipe for one of Lifewatcher’s tried and true recipes: the breakfast smoothie. Each student will receive a binder filled with information, recipes, and questionnaires/evaluations to help them on their health journey. This is also the week that participants evaluate and create their own health goals: why did you come to Lifewatchers? What benefits are you hoping to see and experience? What are your ultimate goals and expectations? Get ready: you’re in for an exciting and invigorating 10 weeks of positive changes and delicious food!
Does eating fat make you fat? Are all fats the same? Is butter really healthier than margarine? This week, you’ll discover the answer to all these questions — and more! That’s right, week 2 is all about fat. We’ll take you through the truth about fats, the differences between omega 3, 6, and 9 fats, and help you understand why healthy fats are one of the keys to your success and overall long-term health (that’s right, fats can be your friends!). You’ll receive a number of different fat-friendly recipes, taste one of Sandy Pomeroy’s signature delicious creations, and take home ideas about how to include more fats in your diet. Plus, we’ll touch on fish oil and why it’s touted as one of the healthiest additions to your diet. You’ll also get to take home a free Lifewatchers-friendly product — a gift for you, from us, to help you on your health journey.
As a reward for all your hard work, dedication, and willingness to try new things to improve your health, we’ve made week 3 a mini cooking class. You’ll receive a complete meal including a delicious Spinach Salad, an Asian Sesame Broccoli side dish, our famous and zesty bean stew, and a delicious sweet and chocolatey dessert that we promise you’ll love. Your instructor will explain why each of these courses is Lifewatcher-friendly, blood sugar balancing, and nourishing for your body. Week 3 will send you home with all of these recipes, plus almost a dozen more for you to try at home that will make you fall in love with vegetables (that’s right, vegetables!). Veggies don’t have to be bland and boring — they can be packed with flavour, and we’ll show you how and give you taste tests to prove it. We’ll also go through some common roadblocks to healthy eating, and knock them down before anyone can use them as an excuse.
By week four, you’re likely already starting to notice some changes in your body, mind, and emotional wellbeing. Perhaps your clothes have started to fit a little looser; maybe you’re sleeping sounder, or maybe your energy levels have improved; or maybe even your diabetes or other symptoms have improved. Whatever you’ve started to experience, hopefully it’s powerful and exciting. And now, in week four, we’re going to explain exactly why these great things are happening to you. In this week, we’re going to delve into Insulin Resistance: what it is, how it’s affecting you, and how you can prevent and treat it with the diet and lifestyle changes you’ve already made. You might be experiencing insulin resistance without even realizing it! You’ll also receive our famous 4 Level Diet Plan that will outline the best and most beneficial foods for you to eat in order to experience optimal wellness (you’ll use this plan for years to come — trust us). Plus, you’ll receive some blood-sugar-balancing recipes and get to try our delicious Quinoa Salad — and learn how to make it yourself to make your body even more fuel efficient.

This week is all about the power of protein, one of the building blocks for a healthy diet and lifestyle. There’s a lot of confusion surrounding protein in today’s world: how much protein do you need? What are some good sources of protein? Are all proteins the same? What are high-protein diets — is this the way to go? In week 5, we’ll guide you through these and many other questions that you might have to help you build a solid foundation of information. We’ll take you through some of the best protein sources (what came first, the chicken or the egg? Who cares, eat both!), how to determine your own individual daily protein needs, how much protein is in your favourite foods, and some great protein-packed meal and snack ideas (you’ll even get to taste a favourite!). We’ll also touch on how to prevent and treat colds, flus, and allergies naturally so you can avoid getting sick while you’re getting healthy. You’ll also fill out a mid-term evaluation to track your progress this far and to remind you of your initial goals in the program — you’ll be surprised at how far you’ve come!
Burn, baby, burn! Now that you’ve learned the basic foundations of a healthy diet, it’s time to delve into the world of fat burning. Like so many other things, there’s no one magic way to burn fat; but a combination of healthy eating, exercise, fat-burning foods, and taking care of your liver will help you shed fat and lose even more inches than you already have. We’ll talk about coconut, one of nature’s most perfect foods; castor oil packs as a way to stimulate and soothe your liver; and go over some easy tips and tools to start you exercising the right way for your body. Plus, we’ll discuss some weight loss truths and myths — some of which will surprise you — and go over some delicious recipes, including 5 new smoothie recipes, as well as some great new breakfast ideas to start your morning off fresh and right. We’ll help to set you up to be in the ultimate fat burning zone — ready, set, go!
Did you know that if you lose 5% of your water supply, your mental and physical performance can decline by up to 30%? Yes, water plays a vital role in ensuring countless bodily processes are functioning properly, including your pH levels. Your pH level is an indicator of acidity or alkalinity, as well as the overall health of your body. what does this mean, exactly? How does pH affect you? How do you determine your pH level, and what can you do to balance them out if you’re too acidic? In week 7, you’ll discover all of this — and more — as we delve into the importance of pH levels and water. We’ll walk you through how to determine your pH score, what to do if you’re on the acidic side, and which foods have alkalizing or acidic properties. You’ll also get some great ideas about how to include more water into your daily diet, how you can make your water work for you, and much more. Plus, you’ll try and take home a delicious alkalizing broccoli salad recipe that you’ll make again and again.
This is probably one of the most popular weeks because it helps so many Lifewatchers participants understand the root of many of their health issues. Janet Jacks, founder of Goodness Me!, will be a guest speaker this week and will talk about the connection of your thyroid and adrenal glands to your weight and health. Both your thyroid and adrenals are intimately connected with your hormones and bodily processes: the thyroid with your metabolism, and your adrenals with your stress. It’s no wonder they impact your weight! When one or both of these vital organs aren’t operating optimally, your health, energy, mood, metabolism, hormones, weight, and much more all take a hit. What are the symptoms of thyroid imbalance or adrenal fatigue? How can you support both in their journey to help you? Learn this and much more in this empowering and eye-opening week. We’ll also touch on the importance of loving your liver and provide you with a simple One Day Detox you can do to give your liver a little extra TLC. Plus, you’ll enjoy a delicious snack of fresh organic veggies with homemade hummus. There’s no turning back after this week!
Stress affects each and every one of us, every day. Whether it’s immediate or long-term, emotional, dietary, or situational, good or bad, we all experience it and we might not know how to deal with it properly. In this week, you’ll learn some of the best stress-busting techniques for virtually any kind of stress, plus you’ll find out what you can do to prevent and handle stress better in your everyday life. We’ll take you through a meditation period in this week to show you the powerful effects of relaxation, and will also show you breathing exercises that are proven to help you relax. You’ll also learn some of the top stress-busting foods and will delve into essential oils and aromatherapy. As if all of that wasn’t a treat enough, you’ll also get to try a light and decadent apple cinnamon mousse that’s nourishing, refreshing, delicious, and so easy to make. Who knew dessert could be so healthy? This is one week you won’t want to miss.
Congratulations – you did it! You journeyed through the ten week Lifewatchers course, learned everything you need to know in order to make powerful and permanent changes in your life, and hopefully experienced some wonderful benefits along the way. Now, it’s time to celebrate! Week 10 is a special week for our Lifewatchers participants because it’s a potluck week. Each member creates and brings a Lifewatcher-friendly dish and everyone gets to enjoy a delicious meal full of fresh ingredients, right through from appetizer to dessert. This week, participants will also have the chance to be weighed and measured so they can see, in number, the progress they’ve made in the last 10 weeks, and they’ll also go through the same questionnaires and quizzes as in week 1 to determine just how far they’ve come. The results will surprise you! You’ll have the chance to ask any remaining questions, and you’ll leave this course feeling empowered, excited, and well on your way to your ultimate health goals. You’ve started to create your own success story – now it’s time to continue it.

Is Lifewatchers for me?

Lifewatchers is for everyone! It’s not aimed at any one type of person or lifestyle. Age, gender, knowledge of nutrition, or level of health are all varying factors in our Lifewatchers participants. We’ve had men and women, from teens to seniors, with varying backgrounds in health - from people taking their first steps in the world of food to those with years of nutritional background. What are the classes like?

The classes are informal, friendly, and fun - it is not a classroom or lecture setting, but more a warm feeling of gathering with friends for an evening. Countless participants have noted the camaraderie and easy-going atmosphere as one of their favourite parts of the program. It allows you to make new friends and get to know people’s progress and success, inspring and encouraging success of your own.

What do I have to do?

By enrolling in Lifewatchers, you are committing to come to the class for one and a half hours, once a week for 10 consecutive weeks. More importantly, however, you are committing yourself to make a change. It doesn’t have to be something big, drastic, and all at once. In fact, that’s the complete opposite idea of Lifewatchers. At Lifewatchers, we focus on a different topic each week, informing you how to make slow, gradual, permanent changes towards better living and a healthier diet. After that, the benefits fall into place—more energy, healthier skin and hair, weight loss, trimmer waistlines, better sleep, less moodiness and headaches, lower risk of disease, and so much more.
